A Pause on the Camino

October 1, 2013

To avoid the uninspiring industrial suburbs (which we experienced last time), and to give ourselves a rest day, we took a bus about 12 miles from Mansilla de las Mullas to the big city of Leon.  We reserved the hotel Hospederia Pax online, based strictly on price and location near the center of the Old City.  It took a bit of walking around to find, and we discovered that, among the many possible hotels in Leon, it was adjacent to the monastery (i.e., convent) and  the associated albergue we stayed in three years ago.

In fact it offered direct access to the monastery chapel where we had enjoyed the nuns' Evening Prayer back then, and did again.  Coincidence?

We got a chance - on a sunny day between two rainy days - to wander the city and especially the 13th Century Gothic Cathedral, famous for its use of much more stained glass than other cathedrals of that time.

Today we set out in the rain from Leon to Villar de Mazarife - not many photos because our camera phones pretty much stayed in our rain-pants pockets.
